As one men’s fashion magazine editor put it, few sartorial areas are as tricky as pants. There are a multitude of mistakes you could make and innumerable combinations and possibilities. The choice between pleated and flat-front pants is easily one of the most problematic for a lot of guys, not least because there are no clear rules for it. When you’re at the boutique, which style should you really go for?

The Pants Dichotomy
If you began reading this article to get hard and fast rules on choosing between flat-front and pleated pants, you’ll be sorely disappointed – there simply aren’t any. As with your choice on width on louis vuitton tie and cuff links, it all boils down to your tastes and personal style. Each side of the divide, however, comes with its own aesthetic, which you may want to know about before you pick out your pleats.

Pleated pants are, simply put, the more traditional and conservative choice. You probably grew up with everyone from your dad to your high school biology teacher wearing this style, so you should have a more or less clear idea of just how traditional it is. That isn’t to say, though, that pleats are outdated. Quite the contrary, (the right kind of) pleats can add fantastic drape to an already great-looking pair of pants.

Flat fronts, silk tie, are the edgier and more modern approach. Think of flat fronts as minimalist men’s fashion, Bauhaus bottoms. It’s the no-fuss, uncomplicated approach to pants, and any kind of modern look does much better when executed with a pair of flat front pants. The lack of pleat, however, is best pulled off by slimmer to regularly built guys; if you’re on the heavy side, pleats might be more flattering for you.

Tipping the Scale
Although there are no rules that definitively tell you which option to choose, a couple of factors could help tip the balance. There’s your build, for example. Guys with heavier or more athletic builds – think cyclists and professional dancers – will find flat-front pants a difficult fit. Pleats help accommodate the bulk without letting it show too much.

Conversely, slimmer and thinner guys should lean more toward flat front pants. They do a better job of hugging the legs and thus accentuate to a trim physique. Pleats are often a tricky proposition for slim guys anyway; all the extra fabric from the pleats calls even more attention to small bodies, and unflatteringly at that.

You’ll also want to consider the look that you want to achieve. A more traditional and aggressive look – think power lv tie and cigars – would do well with pleated pants. More contemporary PDA-friendly styles, meanwhile, often call for flat front pairs.

Pants That Fit
Regardless of the pleating (or lack thereof) that you choose, never forget the rules of fit for pants. That is, there shouldn’t be too much fabric puddling around your legs because that’s always unsightly no matter what you’re wearing. Keep your pants as slim and trim as possible for your body; the less you have hanging onto you, the better. The rules for fit are the same for both styles, except for the fact that pleated pants have a little more give.

Before buying, always look at yourself in the mirror and trust what you see. Check out the pants from every conceivable angle, particularly the sides. Although looking at the front is sufficient for determining how the pair of pants will appear, a side view is even better for checking how the fabric drapes. And when you’re talking about men’s pants, it’s the small things like that which matter a lot.

Sometimes you just can’t make stuff up, you know truth can be stranger than women’s converse shoes. I recently found these gems on eBay. I’ve seen a picture of them before, but that picture wasn’t good enough to post. These however, are clear enough to show. I don’t have a clue when they were made, although I assume that they released during the 70’s give the nature of the women’s converse shoes on the tag. When you look at these a few words might come to mind, ones that may or may not start with What The…. But the one word that should come to mind for everyone is the Warm.
See I told you these were crazy. Give these bad boys to John Varvatos and lets see what he can do with it. Anyway, I am out for the week. So many people to knit for in such a hurry. Go go go!

There’s the first Manos Silk scarf done, I did the second yesterday from the first of Kathy’s yarn (thank you Kathy!) and it’s now waiting to be blocked and the ends run in on both, and today, trying to choose which yarn to scarf down next… I instead tackled the longterm UFO that’s been off alone in a corner.  It simply declared it was its time now. I argued with it for about an hour and then caved.

I love Sea Silk. I love the Monterey pattern with its jellyfish and seaweed and the crash of the surf at the neckline, I really do.  And the idea of putting the two together, and in the Ocean colorway, was just so poetically perfect: actual seaweed turned into aquatic patterns in deep-sea blue, looking shimmery and gorgeous.  How can you get better than that?

So I went down a needle size to match the yarn and off I went.  But Sea Silk is very slippery and the Monterey is a complicated bear if you drop a stitch.  There’s a reason I rated it expert.  That wasn’t stopping me so much as wondering if the woman whom I don’t know that it’s going to will, you know, actually…like it…

I had rubber baby buggy bumpers on the needle tips every time I put it down when I started.  But that was a goodly while ago, months, and I don’t know quite where they are now.  I was afraid those stitches were threatening to be bungee jumpers every time I picked the project burberry scarf.

So I avoided picking it up.

I found myself needing to finish up old tasks today.  It was louis vuitton scarf.  I got one and a half full pattern repeats done so far, and at that rate I’ll finish tomorrow afternoon, unless it declares it wants to be longer than I’m planning.

It’s already shown that it’s the one calling the shots.

Happy Friday, and welcome to the Converse Blog’s first ever Flash Forward. Today instead of looking back into the Converse archives, I’ll be looking forward to an upcoming Converse release. Soon women’s converse shoes will be releasing the Converse Wade Slash the first none signature and none team Wade basketball shoe. Already this shoe has been seen on the feet of Acie Law and Alando Tucker. One of the interesting features of this shoe is the Velcro straps that connect from the tongue of the shoe to the sides. This makes for an interesting use of the converse shoes in a more functional way than just branding. The shoes are double-lasted to give that low to the ground speedy look that helped to make the Wade 1 and 1.3 so popular…well that and the guy who was wearing them.
